For years, YouTube Music has limited users to a list of liked songs of 5,000. Though it seems high, it’s never enough for a hardcore music lover.
Well, this cap has been silently removed this week, letting users add unlimited songs to their liked music playlist. Though some have encountered a restriction at the 10,000 mark, YouTube hasn’t officially noted any cap yet. So, this, too, could be lifted one day.
Upping YouTube Like Songs Playlist
YouTube Music, as a standalone app, has made it’s mark from the regular YouTube, but not so much as to compete with Apple Music or Spotify and there are several reasons for this. One among them is the restriction on liked songs playlist, that’s capped at 5,000 songs.
For comparison, Apple Music has a cap of 100,000 songs, while Spotify has unlimited. And to make things worse, YouTube Music removes the oldest liked song to make room for new ones, so users end up losing their old favourites. This triggered many to accuse YouTube Music in forum posts for years.
Seemingly these cries have been heard, as YouTube Music has silently removed the cap on liked songs playlist this week! This was noted by a Reddit user, who saw the playlist showing the actual number of songs he had wanted.

Though this meant the cap had been virtually removed, we don’t know the new threshold. Some noted the further restriction is at the 10,000-mark, while some say it’s unlimited, like Spotify. Whatever it is, it’s at least doubled, causing rejoice in the community.
What’s strange is that all the liked songs removed past the 5000 mark were added back in at once! So they were never really lost. This led many to question why YouTube is not letting us access the grand list past the 5000 mark if it can keep track of what we’ve liked. While we don’t know the exact reason for this yet, it’s just good to see the platform increasing the mark on listening to the community.
