As Google decided to kill it’s native Podcasts app next year, it’s revamping the podcasts section for it’s YouTube Music app to suit user needs.
The latest change benefitting them is automatically downloading the newest podcast episodes. While it’s a needed addition, there’s no option for removing the completed episodes. The dedicated Google Podcasts app, on the other hand, can delete an episode after a certain period. So, we expect YouTube Music will add this setting soon.
Auto-Downloading Podcasts in YouTube Music
Besides music, YouTube Music is also the home of hundreds of podcast channels hosting daily episodes for user entertainment and with Google focusing intensely on it’s dedicated music app, it’s fine-tuning all the internal features to keep users interested on the platform.
The latest in this pursuit is the addition of automatic downloads of podcasts, which is an essential element in all podcast apps. This feature is available in the dedicated Google Podcasts app, too. Still, since Google has decided to kill it anyway, it’s adding similar options to the Podcasts section in YouTube Music.
As spotted in the YouTube Music’s latest Android and iOS beta v6.21, the auto-download of a podcast will save the newest episode of any subscribed channel when available. Although, you should initially enable this feature to do so.
Interested users can go to the concerned podcast show page, hit settings and select “Save/d to the library”. This will slide up the “Turn on auto-downloads” button, choosing which will immediately download the most recent episode to your device.
Well, Google forgot the addition of automatic deletion of a completed episode, which, too, is an essential feature for podcast apps. Google Podcasts, on the other hand, will let users delete an attack after its completion or after a certain period, viz 24 hours, seven days, 30 days, and 90 days.
The most requested feature alongside this is the ability to subscribe to a podcast via its RSS feed. This would turn YouTube Music into a straightforward podcast player that removes much of the uploading hassle for creators. While Google is working on a native automated flow, the RSS format for delivering content is the most popular.
