A new report states that X and LinkedIn are working on Passkeys support for their respective platforms, allowing users to sign in more securely.
Since this tip was from a code leak, it’s unknown when these platforms will add Passkeys support. Tech giants like Apple, Google and Microsoft have already added this support to some of their products.
Passkeys on X and LinkedIn
With many users falling prey to phishing attacks so quickly, the FIDO Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium have developed a new authentication standard – that doesn’t involve passwords to access a service.
Passkeys involve storing the private key on the user device while the public key is for accessing the website or app and completely removing the password from the process. So, if a user wanted to sign in to a service, he’d be asked to authenticate(unlock) his device via Face ID or fingerprint to sign in.
This passwordless process is considered one of the best security practices and has been adopted by several tech companies lately. While Apple cooked this support in it’s macOS and iOS, Google did the same with some of it’s services. Microsoft, on the other hand, has also enabled Passkeys support on Windows 11. Popular apps like TikTok and PayPal have added this support in recent months.
Will you switch over to using Passkeys on X when it launches? I still haven't tried one yet. Still waiting for it to shake out some more and gain wider support. https://t.co/eDkewN0gBi pic.twitter.com/UCrvtHvDj1

Following their lead, X and LinkedIn are also working on Passkeys support, as noted by TapeDrive’s Steve Moser. Citing a code mentioned on both the apps, Moser noted the support for Passkeys is imminent, although there’s no confirmation on when it’ll be available.
Though another journalist pointed out that support for QR code and Face ID login has been available on X for a few months, the feature seems not widely accessible. Further, Moser has also noted a “Pin Community to Home Timeline” and “Allow message requests from my subscribers” features, testing on X.
