WhatsApp is testing the ability to let users post statuses from it’s web client, which is currently limited to being done only from companion devices.
While it’s a needed addition, WhatsApp Web will only allow users to post photos, videos and text as statuses; for now, the complete support includes sharing GIFs and voice messages.
Status Posting on WhatsApp Web
While WhatsApp is fiercely competing with it’s rival messengers, the platform forgot to advance it’s web client in many cases. One among them is missing the ability to post statuses, even after it’s mobile apps have had this support for years.
Well, the support finally arrives in the latest WhatsApp beta for Web v2.2353.59, where a new option to let users share status updates directly from the web client was spotted. A screenshot shared by the WaBetaInfo revealed the options – photos, videos, and text – in the Status bar.
Earlier, WhatsApp users were limited to posting status updates only from their primary device, which was later extended to companion devices and has now been extended to WhatsApp Web Client. While the new support is welcoming, the WhatsApp Web client only allows users to post photos, videos, and text directly from it.
But, since the feature is still in beta testing, we hope to see more media being added later on. Currently, the posting statuses directly on WhatsApp Web is available to a limited number of users who previously joined the official beta program, and there’s no timeline on when this could arrive in the stable channel.
