WhatsApp Users Can Soon Send HD Images With Slight Compression

WhatsApp 'Chat Lock' is Coming Soon, Confirms Mark Zuckerberg

WhatsApp is reportedly allowing some beta testers to send pictures in HD quality, with a slight compression.

This option is only available for high-resolution images and all the images sent in HD quality are marked as HD in the conversation. Thus, users need to select the photo quality every time they’re sharing a picture. WhatsApp also seemed to have removed the photo upload quality in the settings.

Sharing HD Images in WhatsApp

One of the many important features that WhatsApp is missing is the ability to share HD images, for a while now. This forced users to share images in the document format to not lose their high resolution. Well, a better option is now in the works, as per WaBetaInfo.

The report stated that WhatsApp is testing a new HD-quality option for sending images, with slight compression. Beta testers on iOS v23.11.0.76 or Android v2.23.12.13 can see this option, appearing beside the crop button while sending an image. Well, the HD option will only be shown when the sharing image is of high resolution.

HD Upload Quality in WhatsApp

Else, it’ll be shared in the standard resolution, as usual. The same happens if the user doesn’t select the HD option when applicable, too and in the conversation, images sent in HD quality will bear the “HD” tag. In the same version, WhatsApp has also removed the “photo upload quality” in Settings, probably to bring in the new standard/HD default options later.

Get enrolled in the WhatsApp beta program to check these changes out, although it’s unfortunately closed for iOS, but still open for Android users.
