WhatsApp is testing additional text formatting tools on it’s desktop beta app that allows users to share code and lists more meaningfully.
WhatsApp users can now send any computer code verbatim, thus clearing confusion. Also, they can soon reply to specific texts of a message to be clearer instead of responding to the whole message in a chat. All these features may quickly roll out to WhatsApp Android and iOS clients too.
Additional Text Formatting Tools
Since the last couple of years, WhatsApp has been catching up with rival messengers in a fast-paced manner. The platform introduces new features almost monthly and has tested many in the pipeline.
The latest in this pursuit are new formatting tools, adding to the basics of Bold, Italics, Strikethrough etc. Starting with a new “Code Block”, users can now share any computer code verbatim, making it suitable for software developers, programmers, and anyone involved in the tech industry.
Sharing the code text, as it is will allow users to read the lines accordingly, which is an essential aspect of the concept. Users intending to share code on WhatsApp must mention it between ” ` ” quotes, making it specific.
The next up is a “Quote” feature, where users can now reply to specific texts in a message instead of responding to the whole now. For this, you must use a ” > ” to mention the concerned text and type in the reply.
And finally, users can soon create lists with a • points to be more meaningful. All you need to do is to mention the list items with – sign and let it automatically convert them into list points.
All these features were seen in development by WaBetaInfo on WhatsApp desktop beta, so they’ll take time to arrive on the beta version. Once proven useful, they’ll be rolled out to WhatsApp Android and iOS clients too.
