WhatsApp is reportedly testing support to allow users to send photos and videos in their original resolution, aside from HD and standard compressing modes.
Though this type of media is still treated as documents, it’s better than the current workaround of sending media in PDF or DOC format to save their quality from WhatsApp compression. This feature came a week after WhatsApp started letting users send media in HD quality.
Sending Lossless Media on WhatsApp
For a long time, WhatsApp has been automatically compressing the quality of media sent through it’s platform to make the process faster. Though beneficial, most users didn’t like the idea, as it reduces the media’s quality.
This led many to try the workaround of sending media in a document format – PDF or DOC, to keep the original quality. Though it has it’s downsides, this technique preserved the quality as desired.
Well, observing such uneasiness, WhatsApp has last week rolled out a new HD option to let users share photos and videos in better yet slightly compressed resolution. This option appeared in the media editing panel before sending it to the chat.
Well, now, WhatsApp is reportedly testing support to allow users to send media in their original quality! As noted by WaBetaInfo on WhatsApp for Android beta v2.23.18.12, a new option as “select original quality photos or videos” was spotted in the document picker, enabling much-needed support.
Though the media sent and received in this format is still considered a document, it’s much better than what we’ve now. This feature was first spotted in January this year and is currently in beta testing.
