WhatsApp is reportedly running tests on allowing users to start a video call with 32 participants, currently limited to only 15 participants.
Though WhatsApp has stated that it’s video calls can accommodate 32 participants, users can only add the rest after initiating a call with 15 participants. This cap was reportedly removed in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android and is currently in testing with a few users.
WhatsApp Video Call Tweaks
Though WhatsApp is one of the leading instant messenger, it’s not a full-fledged communication app for many reasons. One among them is the limitation of the number of persons that can participate on a video call – which is currently capped at 32 people.
Also, users cannot start a call with 32 participants simultaneously but with 15 people and add the rest later. Well, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg in July said they’re adding the ability to initiate a video call with 32 participants at once, which is now available for testing to some users.
As noted by WABetaInfo in the latest WhatsApp for Android beta v2.23.19.16, the Calls tab has been revamped to show who you can call and a limit of 31 participants. Earlier, this tab shows the call history and links to active calls that let you join calls in between.
Well, the ability to start a video call with 31 participants(32, including you) is currently available to a few beta testers and will hopefully be coming to everyone later on. WhatsApp is often used by companies, families and even educational groups to connect. So, if Meta wants to take on dedicated communication apps like Slack or Zoom, having this ability is necessary.
