Bettering the chat security, WhatsApp reportedly provides a better access route to locked chats in the latest Android beta app.
Though the platform allows users to lock their sensitive chats with custom passwords, the chats are still visible in the chat list. But with new support, WhatsApp will allow users to find these locked chats only by entering their secret code in chat search, hiding it better.
For a Better Security, A Secret Access
As WhatsApp works rapidly to improve security, the platform has recently introduced the ability to lock sensitive chats with a custom password called secret access. Until now, WhatsApp allows users to lock their conversations with the device biometrics, which is a weak form of securing your chats.
Anyone with access to your phone and the password can unlock the hidden chats. Thus, secret access is a better way of securing your conversations. But again, WhatsApp shoves the locked chats into a dedicated folder visible in the chat list – when it’s slid down. This leaks the fact that you have sensitive chats, which is still a breach of privacy.
Thus, WhatsApp is now working to hide such locked chats, too, in the latest Android beta app, v2.23.22.9. As noted by WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp removes the dedicated folder for hiding locked chats but lets users access them by entering the secret access code in the chat search bar.
A new toggle to this setting appeared in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, which removes the locked chats from the Chat list and is accessible only by entering the correct secret code in the search bar. Hiding the entry point to locked chats is a good move since it offers better user privacy.
