WhatsApp’s screen-sharing feature has long included only the visuals of a sharing device, cutting off the audio music – making it partially useless.
Well, WhatsApp is now working to add audio support too, that would let all the participants on a video call listen to audio, besides viewing the shared screen. This support was spotted on the WhatsApp beta versions of both Android and iOS apps but yet to arrive to the stable channel.
Audio Inclusion in WhatsApp Screen Sharing
While WhatsApp is primarily a personal communication tool, it’s gradually evolving to become a collaborative platform – like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, by adding relevant features regularly.
One among them is the screen sharing support, where users can show their screen to other participants on a video call and work accordingly. While it’s a valuable addition, WhatsApp’s screen-sharing feature doesn’t include audio output – making it partially useless.
Understanding it’s need, WhatsApp is finally adding support to include audio in screen sharing, as seen in WhatsApp beta for Android v2.23.26.18. While it’s in beta testing, WaBetaInfo has spotted the same ability on WhatsApp beta for iOS, too, earlier. The news outlet also noted that the support does not apply to voice calls or video calls when the video is disabled.
As we wait to see this in the stable channel soon, WhatsApp still has a long way to go if it really wants to compete with dedicated video conferencing apps like Zoom, Teams and Google Meet, which regularly update their feature-base to support remote working.
