WhatsApp is a great app to communicate with friends and family members and it is used by more than two billion people worldwide. Ever since the app has been made available for all users, Meta – the parent company of WhatsApp has continuously made updates to the app with new and interesting features. Some of these features were already available on other social media apps before making their way to WhatsApp while some features are new.
Now, Meta is working on a new feature or change that is related to profile pictures on WhatsApp. Profile Pictures are a great way for users to express their feelings and help other users recognize the exact person on their contact list with whom they want to communicate.
However, profile pictures can be used by another person who can see your profile pictures. To counter this, WhatsApp had restricted downloading profile pictures almost half a decade ago. Still, there is a loophole in this as users can take screenshots of profile pictures of other users if it is visible to them.
Meta has worked on this loophole and now the update will be rolling out soon to counter this issue. As per WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta version 2.24.4.25 for Android comes with a new privacy-related feature on the app. Now, WhatsApp limits users from taking screenshots of profile pictures of other users. This is a much-needed feature and it will take the security of users’ data to another level.
According to Beebom, this feature works as expected. When a user tries to take a screenshot of the profile picture of another user, a pop-up appears on the screen saying, “Can’t take a screenshot due to app restrictions”.
This is indeed a great step as it will prevent users from sharing and misusing other profile pictures. This is a big loophole and now Meta is trying to fix this issue. This new update is currently available for some beta users as of right now. If you are a part of the WhatsApp beta program, then you can update your app from the Google Play Store and test this feature for yourself.
The instant messaging app did not disclose the date when this feature will be rolled out to all users globally. However, we expect that this feature will be rolled out soon as it is now part of a broader beta update available for a broader set of beta testers.
