WhatsApp is Officially Rolling Out ‘HD Photo’ Sharing Support Globally

Beware: Scammers Posing as WhatsApp Support Are Stealing Data

After testing for months, WhatsApp is finally rolling out support for HD photo sharing on it’s platform, as announced by Mark Zuckerberg today.

Coming in the next few weeks, Zuckerberg demonstrated how this feature works in his Facebook post. WhatsApp users will see a new HD option placed aside the editing tools while sharing a photo, if they don’t select anything, the photo will be shared in a standard resolution.

HD Photo Sharing on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is finally rolling out an essential feature this month – the ability to share HD photos on the platform, after testing it for a few months. WaBetaInfo noted this feature in the betas of iOS v23.11.0.76 and Android v2.23.12.13, and now rolling out officially to everyone globally.

As announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, WhatsApp users can now send HD photos to their friends and family on the platform, preserving the high-definition resolution of their photos.

Coming to Android, iOS and WhatsApp Web in a few weeks, users will see a new HD option besides the photo editing tools while sharing an image – that opens a menu asking you to choose between Standard and HD options and to send it accordingly.

Photos sent in HD quality will bear an HD logo at the bottom left-hand corner of the images to signify such. If you don’t select the HD option, the photo will be sent in Standard resolution by default to ensure faster media delivery.

TechCrunch notes that if you receive an HD photo while on low bandwidth connectivity, you can choose between downloading a standard-quality photo or the HD version. We hope WhatsApp will roll out similar support for videos, too, one day.
