WhatsApp, in it’s latest Android beta, was found testing a new blue checkmark for Channels instead of the regular green checkmark.
While an official reason is yet to be stated, this colour change could align with Meta’s branding. Also, since Zuckerberg said that subscribing to Meta Verified will let you have your blue badge across all it’s platforms, Channels and Businesses may be assigned a similar blue verified badge.
Colour Coding to Align With Larger Interests
One of the many significant features WhatsApp launched recently is Channels, a way for celebrities to post updates directly to their fans. While the platform is testing more relevant features like replying to Channel updates and search functions, it’s also revamping the colour of the verified badge.
Until now, any verified business or Channel account on WhatsApp is given a green checkmark, aligning with the platform’s base colour palette. While it’s easily recognisable, WhatsApp is tuning the checkmark’s colour from green to blue, similar to Instagram and Facebook.
While an official reason for this change is yet to be stated, it could most likely due to the Meta Verified program – which offers a blue verified badge and other features across all Meta platforms that you subscribed to. To align with this thought, WhatsApp could change the verified badge’s colour soon.
WaBetaInfo spotted a hint of this in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android v2.23.20.18 so that it could be rolling out soon. Though the change is spotted for Channels, it could apply to the business accounts, too, if subscribed to Meta Verified.
