WhatsApp, on its latest iOS app, added the ability to send media files in a document format to preserve their quality during transmission.
While Android users have been going through this for a long time, iOS users find it difficult. Thus, to make things easier, WhatsApp rolled out this support on it’s latest iOS app. Further, WhatsApp added voice chats for groups, the ability to react to status with animated avatars and chat bubbles in the same update.
New WhatsApp Features on iOS
Though WhatsApp has been frequently adding new features lately, it’s ignoring a critical problem users always beg for – the ability to send media files without losing clarity. Though it partially addressed this by introducing an “HD” option, it still compresses a bit during the transmission process.
Thus, it’s now letting users send photos and videos through document mode – to keep their quality intact. This support was spotted on the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS v23.24.73, which rolled out recently. The same has been in testing on WhatsApp for Android beta, but it is yet to be rolled out.
This option is cooked into the chat share sheet, where you can tap “Document” and “Choose Photo or Video” to select the concerned media to send in great quality. This aside, WhatsApp has also added voice chats for groups, new bubbles in chat to help users see missed, ongoing and completed calls, and the ability to react to status with animated avatars.
If you don’t see these features even after running the said version, wait for a couple of days to have it added. Ensure you update your WhatsApp and TestFlight app to see such features early when rolled.
