Making your conversations more private, WhatsApp is bringing the “Chat Lock” feature to everyone soon – as confirmed by the platform’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg today.
While there’s no specific date given for this feature’s arrival, we expect this to come for all WhatsApp clients very soon. When available, users can enable this chat to lock and hide them behind a safe-like folder, which opens only with the device’s biometric access.
WhatsApp Chat Lock For More Security
To protect your chats from unauthorized access, WhatsApp is bringing the Chat Lock setting to all of it’s clients, very soon. The platform’s Mark Zuckerberg confirmed this today, after announcing a dedicated WhatsApp app for WearOS last week.
The Chat Lock feature was earlier noted with a few leaks – where several outlets had Meta explained how this setting would work when available. As expected, the Chat Lock will put all the selected chats behind a Locked folder – which can only be accessed through the device’s biometric unlock. This may include Face ID, fingerprint, PIN, or pattern locks.

Users can find this lock option in chat info, added as “Chat Lock”. Tapping on this will slide the whole conversation behind the locked folder – available at the top of the chat list. Notifications from these locked chats will be disabled for privacy reasons – where no author or message previews will be shown in the device’s notification panel.
Further, the media shared from these locked chats will not be saved to the device’s gallery automatically. Though Zuckerberg didn’t state a specific date for this feature’s release, we should see it coming in the next few days or weeks.
