The change is indeed real, as Twitter has finally begun it’s transition towards the letter X. Just yesterday, Elon Musk announced that Twitter is being rebranded to X.com. On Monday morning, the transition finally began as the iconic bird logo was removed from the Twitter website and replaced by the letter X. Elon Musk originally founded X.com as a payment website, which later merged with PayPal when Musk sold the website. In 2017, Elon Musk bought back the defunct domain X.com from PayPal, a move that seemed puzzling at the time.

However, Musk has been hinting at rebranding the Twitter brand for quite some time and now the change has finally happened. This time, it appears to be a real change, unlike the brief replacement of Twitter’s logo with Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu logo.

The bird is gone and it has been replaced by the letter X. The logo change is currently visible on the microblogging website and the app logo and icon will also be changed in the coming days. Musk announced that the company will replace all instances of the bird logo with the letter X. Interestingly if you visit X.com, the website will redirect you to Twitter.com.

Even if you search for the app on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, you will see X Corp listed as the developer. The company has also projected the new logo on it’s San Francisco headquarters.

As mentioned previously, Musk holds a special significance with the letter X as it was the name of his banking start-up that merged with PayPal. Additionally, his space company SpaceX also features the letter X, while his car company Tesla has a model named X.

This change might confuse users, as many users have come to recognize the bird logo as synonymous with the microblogging site. However, let’s see what Musk has in mind for the future of the social media site and where he wants to take it. Twitter, or “X”, is competing with Meta’s social media site. Just recently, Meta launched Threads, a text-based app to compete with Musk’s microblogging site.

Musk acquired Twitter for a whopping $44 billion last year, which sent shockwaves through the tech world. Since the acquisition, the microblogging site has undergone many changes, most of which have attracted a lot of criticism from users.
