Enhancing it’s anti-harassment options, Twitch will now let users block banned accounts from watching their stream, as announced in the latest episode of Patch Notes.
This has also been one of the most requested features from the community, as banned accounts are usually booted for spreading spam or hate and they’re also kicked out of live streams too. Though it’s not enabled by default, Twitch promises to make it a default setting soon.
Keeping Spammers at Bay
Twitch, a popular streaming platform, has long been missing an essential ability – to let users block spammers from interacting with their streaming. While it’s hard to identify who’ll be considered spam, Twitch blocks several accounts based on their activity on the platform and reports from others.
And these banned accounts can now be booted off from your live streaming too, says Twitch in it’s latest episode of Patch Notes, a monthly product update show. This tool will be rolling out streamers in the coming weeks and will let them keep spammers at bay.
This is an enhancement over the current control of blocking someone from live chat, where they can now be blocked from viewing the live stream too. Initially, this tool has to be enabled manually every time a stream is started, but Twitch says it’ll make it a default setting later.
While it’s a needed addition, it’s so limited in it’s purpose. Twitch can block only the accounts that were logged in, so people who watch the live stream without logging in escape. Though Twitch is working on IP blocking, this is far from the reality, as people constantly develop new workarounds.
Also, the new blocking tool will not bar them from watching the VODs, highlights and clips of a streamer, making it partially useless. Until Twitch comes up with a better plan, it should come in handy, at least in some situations.
