In an attempt to take on Twitter, TikTok this week introduced support for text posts – letting users express themselves in a more direct way.
You can write stories, poems, lyrics etc., as text posts and add an interesting background and music before publishing. TikTok says the new text posts will be as creative and dynamic as the current photo and video posts.
Text Posts on TikTok
Starting as a short-video platform, TikTok grew so big that it gave a tough time to other social media giants like Meta and YouTube, until they eventually started to make TikTok-like products as well.
Well, this eventually spurred competition among them, triggering every social media platform to borrow each other’s niche features. In this pursuit, TikTok is now stealing the essence of Twitter – short-form text posts, to let it’s users try it out.
As announced this week, TikTok users can now post text updates on the platform – with the ability to add music, background, stickers, hashtags and tagging others. This will hopefully keep some users on the native platform instead of going to Twitter.
TikTok suggests users share their stories, poems, lyrics and other written content on the platform – through these text posts – available from the app’s Camera page. Opening the roll, you’ll find the new text option alongside photo and video.
Clicking on it will open the blank space, where you can type out the content and customise it with available effects. You can even tag a location, enable comments and allow Duets of these text posts. On launching, TikTok said;
“With text posts, we’re expanding the boundaries of content creation for everyone on TikTok, giving the written creativity we’ve seen in comments, captions, and videos a dedicated space to shine”.
