Code lines spotted in the latest version of the TikTok app revealed that the short-video platform is making an ad-free plan, priced at $4.99 a month in the US.
This option is currently showing up to very few users, as noted by Android Authority, who spotted the code. And since it’s in the testing phase, the price and availability may vary in the public rollout when available.
TikTok’s New Ad-Free Experience
It’s no doubt that TikTok is a trendsetter of short-video entertainment. It revolutionized so much that it triggered all the tech giants to create similar clones. Meta, the social media giant, has developed and merged a short-video-making feature across it’s suite of apps.
After shaking up the industry, TikTok is testing out yet another feat – an ad-free user experience for a price. As noted by Android Authority, some code lines spotted in the latest version of the TikTok app revealed that the platform is testing an ad-free plan in the US for $4.99 a month.
The same showed up when the app was opened, supporting this version, asking users to choose between a Standard and an Ad-Free plan. While the standard procedure is used now, cooked with personalised ads, an ad-free program lets you stream the content without ads.
However, since this is in the testing phase and is available to minimal users, the price and availability may change in the final public rollout and according to regions.
TikTok has significant revenue-generating streams, as it doesn’t interfere with some earning features on it’s platform. For example, there’s a Live Subscription feature to let users subscribe directly to their Creators and TikTok doesn’t take a cut from it. While ads primarily drive it, they aim for a steady income stream by selling an ad-free experience.
