TikTok Adds Passkeys Support for Secure Login

FCC Asks Apple and Google to Delist TikTok From Their App Stores

TikTok is the latest tech company to adopt Passkey capabilities, letting users access the app without using their passwords.

A screenshot shared by a social media expert depicts the short-video app adding Passkeys, letting users authenticate with the device biometrics. Also, the app is adding Pronouns to let users define themselves on the platform.

Passkeys and Pronouns on TikTok

With tech giants promoting the new authentication standard – Passkeys, as a better way of accessing services, OEMs of various apps are integrating this methodology into their login processes. We’ve seen Microsoft doing it with it’s Office apps and Windows PCs, Apple enabling this support in it’s products and even Google adding it to it’s suite.

Well, now, TikTok is adding it, too, as per Ahmed Ghanem, a social media expert. He shared a screenshot on Twitter showcasing the new feature, where TikTok asks users to enable Passkeys and access the platform with their biometrics easily. Though the screenshot depicts the feature available in iOS, it may soon be coming to Android too.

Passkeys generated in the setup process will be stored in iCloud Keychain(Google Drive in the case of Android) and be available when needed and since they’re securely stored in cloud storage, they can be synced and used on other devices with the same cloud account connected.

Aside from this, TikTok is also adding Pronoun tags, where users can add their respective pronouns to their profile, letting the community know how they should be perceived. This option is being considered by most social media platforms these days, with LinkedIn adding it earlier this year.

And finally, you can now choose whether your video is to be featured in the TikTok Nearby Feed or not, as the platform adds a toggle option for this. Users can find this in the Discoverability section of Privacy Settings and opt accordingly. This will turn on/off your content to be shown in nearby areas if posted with location permissions.

Well, since all these features are leaks for now, you may or may not see them already. Wait for a couple of weeks to see if they’ll ever come around.
