Meta’s new social media app, Threads, is adding the ability to mention someone in a Threads post, similar to that of other platforms.
Furthermore, users can now share Threads posts in Instagram DMs with a direct share button and add Alt text to the uploading media. All these three new features are available in the latest beta update, although not everyone can see them all at once, making it a server-side addition.
Threads App New Features
After having a great start, Meta’s Threads app has quickly lost it’s charm due to lack of features. The new social media platform misses a web client, DMs, an Explore section and many other essentials. While Meta is working hard to bring them all eventually, Threads app gain three new features this week.
Starting off, users can now mention a username in their post while uploading, to tag them in the post. This is similar to what we do on other platforms. Just add @ and type in the username or pick one from the suggested to mention them in your post.
Further, users can now add alt text to the uploading media, where they mention relevant details to make the post better understanding.
To add Alt text, start a post, attach photos or videos using the paperclip icon and then tap the “Alt” button that appears on the image. This aside, Threads will now allow users to share posts to Instagram DMs, directly via the paper airplane-like icon on a post. For some reason, this feature isn’t available for me as yet, even though I’m a beta tester of Threads. The other two are available.
