To let third-party developers make interesting applications, Meta is working on an API for it’s Threads platform, as revealed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri.
Saying that it’ll aid publishers more than an individual creator, he hopes the API help creators more than anyone. When available, it could give Threads an engagement boost despite coming from third-party apps, as rivals X and Reddit have made their API pricy and unreachable to most developers.
Threads API For More Functionality
Meta’s new social media platform, Threads, is working on an API for third-party applications, reveals Instagram head Adam Mosseri this week.
Responding to journalist Casey Newton, Mosseri said, “We’re working on it. My concern is that it’ll mean a lot more publisher content and not much more creator content, but it still seems like something we need to get done”.
Threads has earlier expressed that it won’t rapidly push news on it’s platform, like X, but will serve it anyway on the platform. This means it values the creators’ content more than publishers, who post tens of articles daily and since X and Reddit have made accessing their APIs harder with high prices, Meta launching a Threads API for a cheap price is a good move.
Earlier this week, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Threads now has “just under” 100 million daily active users, so having an API and a third-party app ecosystem will do more good to the user base.
Threads has shipped many features since it’s launch in July. However, having a third-party app ecosystem will let users access the platform in more different ways and even access trending features faster than on the actual Threads platform.
