Telegram has added a bunch of new features in it’s latest update, with some exclusive to premium subscribers and some for everyone.
A notable among them is the view-once photo and video messages, similar to view-once media. Also, Telegram users can now see when a recipient reads their message, although they can turn this off in the settings.
Telegram’s New Privacy Features
Already standing on top as the most resourceful instant messenger, Telegram continues to add new features for privacy and chat flexibility for it’s community. The latest in this pursuit includes a view-once option for photo and video messages, an extension of view-once photos and videos in one-on-one chat from September 2023.
Both voice and video messages can now be sent as view-once – after being played one time, the message is automatically deleted.

Interested users should hit the mic icon in the chat box to start recording and pull up to tap on the “view-once” icon to activate this mode. They can pause and resume recording a voice or video message through the same menu.
This aside, Telegram allows people to see when a recipient has read their message. This is only available in one-on-one private chats and can be turned off in the settings. Premium subscribers, on the other hand, can hide their read time but can still look at someone’s read time if they share it publicly.
Also, the paid tier can pick who can send them messages first. This can be set to “Everyone” or “My Contacts and Premium User”. All these join last month’s feature drop of end-to-end encryption to calls and the ability of bots to manage messages.
