The latest beta update to the Steam client on desktop supports private games – where users can hide specific games from public view.
Users can mark the concerned games private in their shopping cart, game list or the Steam Client Library, to hide all the game data from the public. Besides this, Steam has fixed some bugs and refreshed the UI of some elements in this update.
Hiding Steam Games From Public View
A new update to Steam’s beta client on desktop added a few privacy features, including the ability to hide one’s games from the public’s view. “Starting today, you’ll be able to mark specific games as private and they’ll disappear from anywhere they’d be viewed by someone other than you“, says Steam.
We first heard about this private setting in November and hoped this would let users have some peace of mind by hiding games that may raise an eyebrow. Be it a family member or a friend, not letting someone know what you’re playing is a needed option.
You can mark games private from your shopping cart, your game list(accessible from the web browser), or your Steam Client Library. Once marked private, Steam will hide the game’s ownership, in-game status, playtime and activity in that game from others.
This aside, the latest update has also added the following;
- A new “Privacy” page to the app properties dialogue with the unique Private setting. The “Hidden” option is also available on this new page.
- The option to reset overlay settings and cache data has moved to the new Privacy page.
- Added a private mode indicator to the Manage button if enabled.
- An updated shopping cart on the Steam Store.
- Fix for rare crashes when showing or hiding non-VR apps on the SteamVR dashboard
- Fixed Controller LED Color Selector UI.
