Sony Starts Public Beta Testing of PS5 Cloud Gaming

A month after teasing, Sony has finally rolled out PS5 Cloud gaming to select players, which lets them play PS5 titles at 4K resolution.

While the company didn’t list the available games, it said the PS5 Cloud Gaming is open only on PS5 consoles and to PS Plus Premium subscribers. Though Sony has earlier cloud-streamed PlayStation games, this is the first time the company is doing it with PS5 titles.

Cloud Gaming of PS5 Titles

Could gaming has disrupted the whole gaming space as playing HQ video games normally require high-end hardware. Many OEMs tried this technique, but Sony couldn’t pull it off that well. Well, riding on the success of the PlayStation 5, the Japanese giant has launched a public beta testing of PS5 titles, this week.

The testing is limited to select users, where Sony invites eligible players through an email – asking them to test cloud streaming of a few PS5 titles. Further, the testing is limited to those with a PlayStation 5 console and subscribed to PS Plus Premium.

If you’re eligible and have received an invite, luckily, get on to play the available games and tell us how it felt. The most prominent feature reported in this update is the ability to play PS5 titles in 4K resolution! Though it’s common in the cloud gaming space – as led by Google Stadia and Nvidia’s GeForce, it’s the first time that Sony is doing this with PS5 titles.

Players can select various resolutions like 720p(HD), 1080p(FHD), 1440p(QHD) and 2160p(4K), although it’s unclear if the 4K tier refers to rendering the game at 4K or streaming it at 4K. Well, a notable addition here is the syncing of cloud saves – where users can pick up where they left off on a previous local install on cloud streaming.

As for what games would be supported, Sony hasn’t shared an official list. But those who tested this support already said the pack includes God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Fortnite, Fall Guys, Destiny 2, Returnal, Death Stranding, Resident Evil 8 and others.
