Years after restricting it’s consoles for gaming, Sony is finally letting it’s PS5 and PS4 premium subscribers stream movies on their consoles using a dedicated app called Sony Pictures Core.
This is the rebrand of the Bravia Core app available on Sony’s Bravia and some Xperia handsets. Sony added around 100 ad-free movies to it’s new app library, while some can be rented before their digital release.
Sony App For Streaming Movies on PS5
Sony has long produced movies and gaming consoles but never delved into the streaming market. But listening to the community’s requests, the Japanese giant has brought the dedicated streaming app – Bravia Core to its PlayStation consoles this week.
Renamed Sony Pictures Core, the app is available for PS5 and PS4 users who subscribed to PlayStation Premium or Delux(a Premium-type plan open in select markets). Subscribers can access around 100 ad-free Sony Pictures films, including Looper, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Elysium, and Resident Evil Damnation, among others.
The company also plans to add some anime content from Crunchyroll at no extra cost. Further, subscribers can buy and rent movies through the Sony Pictures Core app, even before they’re released worldwide! Well, Sony accommodated all this content burden with the increased annual prices for the PlayStation Plus Premium plan, from $120 to $160, weeks ago.
An example of this is that PS4 and PS5 users with PlayStation Premium subscriptions can buy Gran Turismo through their console while also bagging some in-game credits for Gran Turismo 7 too. Although, it’s only available to users in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand for now.
