Samsung is reportedly working on a non-invasive blood sugar monitoring feature, that may be added to future Galaxy smartwatches.
While there’s no timeline on this, Samsung’s mobile digital health chief, Hon Pak, said they had invested a lot in this technology and they are hoping to bring it within the next five years. Meanwhile, Apple is also working on a similar feature to level up the health monitoring game.
Blood Glucose Testing on Galaxy Watches
Though Samsung is a big smartphone player, the company lags in the wearables market, mostly due to it’s non-competitive features. Galaxy Watches, for example, offer pretty good hardware and software, but they aren’t the best in this space.
Thus, Samsung is aggressively working on new features to dominate this space, and non-invasive blood sugar monitoring is the one it should be targeting. In an interview with Bloomberg, Samsung’s mobile digital health chief, Hon Pak, said, “If we can do continuous blood pressure and glucose, we’re in a different ballgame. I think that’s where everyone is trying to get to. We’re putting significant investment toward that“.
Although Pak didn’t mention a timeline for this feature’s launch, he expects continuous blood pressure and glucose monitoring to roll out in the next five years. Thus, we may not see the feature go live on the Galaxy Watch 7!
Until then, Samsung should keep hyping about it’s recently launched Galaxy Ring, which comes with a range of activity and sleep-tracking functionalities and also, it’s touted to come with new health features soon.
Apple, on the other hand, has also been working on non-invasive blood glucose monitoring for over a decade. This pushes rivals to come up with exciting features to stay competitive. And Samsung is precisely doing that, to change the game by launching this feature ahead of Apple.
