To let women wearing the Galaxy Watch 5 track their period cycle accurately, Samsung is adding a temperature-based tracking feature soon to these devices.
This is the result of a partnership between Samsung and Natural Cycles – where the latter provides it’s cycle tracking algorithm to the Galaxy Watch 5 Series in the coming months. This will be available via the Samsung Health app in 32 countries initially.
Period Tracking on the Galaxy Watch 5
Samsung’s latest smartwatch – the Galaxy Watch 5 Series, was launched last summer with a bunch of improvements and new features. While most are aimed at fitness tracking and productivity, the company is now focusing on female health – by adding a necessary feature to it’s devices.
As per it’s announcement, both Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will get a temperature-based cycle tracking feature in Q2 of this year. This is provided by Natural Cycles – a company that’s well known for it’s birth control app being cleared by the FDA.
Though Samsung notes this feature is approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea, it doesn’t seem to be approved by the FDA yet. But since the company’s relevant service is cleared, we expect the same reliability for it’s working on the Galaxy Watch 5 Series.
Samsung says this feature will be made available through the Health app on the Galaxy Store – with the following countries receiving it in the first phase: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S.
