How to Boot the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 into Fastboot Mode

The Redmi Note 5 Fastboot Mode can also be referred to as Bootloader Mode as they both serve similar functions depending on which device you have. The following tutorial will walk you through how to boot the Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro, and the Redmi Note 5 Plus into Fastboot Mode.

Android by itself has a number of different boot modes for us to use with our devices. Some of these help us to troubleshoot a smartphone or table that isn’t running properly. When we have other boot modes that enable us to access different parts of the hardware and/or software that is usually restricted from us.

This is where the Redmi Note 5 Fastboot Mode comes into play as we need to do this so that we can use other tools (such as Mi PC Suite or the Xiaomi Tool) to flash different types of firmware onto our device.

On some Android devices, it is recommended that we boot into Fastboot Mode so that we can boot over into Recovery Mode. Xiaomi (and many other Chinese OEMs) do things differently though as there aren’t any visible menu options for us to do something on our device when we’re in Fastboot Mode. However, when using tools on the PC, we are sometimes told to boot into Fastboot Mode and then connect it to the PC with a USB cable. So if you ever come across one of these instances with the Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro, or the Redmi Note 5 Plus from Xiaomi then you can follow these steps below.

Booting the Redmi Note 5 into Fastboot Mode

  1. Power down the Redmi Note 5
  2. Wait until the smartphone is completely turned off
  3. Then press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button at the same time
  4. Continue holding these two buttons until you feel the phone vibrate
  5. Let go of these two buttons when you see the special Fastboot Mode splash screen

Explanation

As mentioned, most people won’t ever need to boot into the Redmi Note 5 Fastboot Mode as it’s really only used for special occasions. However, if you ever find yourself needing to learn how to boot the Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro, or the Redmi Note 5 Plus into or out of Fastboot Mode then this guide is here to walk you through the entire process. To start, we need to completely shut down the device and we do this by pressing and holding the Power button for a few seconds.

This will bring up the Power Menu and we’ll want to let go of the Power button once that Power Menu appears on the screen. From here, simply tap on the Power Off button that appears in the bottom right of the screen and then you’ll be asked to press the Power Off button again to confirm your choice. After the second tap, we need to wait for a few seconds so that the Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Plus, or the Redmi Note 5 Pro turns all the way off. We can then proceed to Step 3 of the guide above once that happens.

With the device shut down, go ahead and press both the Power button as well as the Volume Down button at the same time. You can follow along with the embedded video above if you’re confused about this step or any other steps in this tutorial. Continue holding these two buttons down and you will eventually feel the Redmi Note 5 vibrate. A quick second after the smartphone vibrates you will see the special splash screen for the Redmi Note 5 Fastboot Mode appear.

This is where you want to let go of these two buttons as we can force the Redmi Note 5 to reboot reboot if we continue holding them for too long. We are done with the entire process once we let go of those two buttons and we’re sitting there looking at the Fastboot Mode splash screen (which is the image shown above). This is the point where you would want to connect the device to your computer with a USB cable so that you can proceed with whatever you needed it for.

However, if got into Fastboot Mode by accident then you should know that you can press and hold the Power button for 5-10 seconds and it will force the Redmi Note 5 to reboot. This will boot us right back into Android where we are taken to our Lock Screen and then Home Screen.
