Panasonic Avionics Corporation, a prominent maker of in-flight entertainment, has disclosed a data breach incident affecting an unknown number of people this week.

The notification comes a year after the hack, as mentioned by it to the California’s Attorney General this week. Leaked details include personal and financial data of individuals and their employers, to whom the company is now offering a free credit monitoring service.

Revealing a Year After Cyberattack

In December 2022, Panasonic Avionics Corporation suffered a cyberattack, leading to the leakage of sensitive data belonging to it’s employees and users. A year after it happened, Panasonic last week filed a letter with California’s Attorney General, mentioning more details of the leak.

The company noted an unknown attacker had breached a part of it’s corporate network and gained access to information of some individuals and their employers. This includes the individuals’ names, contact details(email address, mailing address and telephone number), dates of birth, medical and health insurance information, financial account numbers, company employment status and government identifiers, such as Social Security numbers.

Panasonic claimed to have sent the data breach notifications to the affected persons, this past weekend but doesn’t clarify the scope of this incident – like if it affects it’s employees or it’s customers and business partners as well. The company’s in-flight entertainment systems are installed on over 15,000 commercial airplanes, of which more than 3,780 provide customers with Panasonic Avionics satellite Wi-Fi connectivity.

The company claims it found no evidence of misuse of this leaked data but offers 24-month identity and credit monitoring services for free to those impacted. It warns the affected people to be vigilant of any suspicious activity.
