How to Customize Lock Screen Shortcuts on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T

Once you have rooted and installed Xposed Framework on the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T, you can add, remove and change shortcuts to the Lock Screen.

The core Android OS has had two application shortcuts on the lock screen for a while now. They generally sit at the bottom left and right corners and will point to different applications depending on who the OEM of the device is. For example Google has started adding their voice search to the bottom left corner, and the camera in the bottom right corner.

While OEMs like Samsung will replace the voice search option with the phone application. OnePlus has opted to go with Google’s solution, and that’s fine for some people.

Others would rather have access to different applications directly from the Home Screen. This is where a very useful Xposed Module comes into play. With the Shortcut Lock Screen Mod, you can chance the two lock screen shortcuts that stay in the bottom left and right corners of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.

The Xposed Module I will be showing you today is specifically made for Marshmallow. So, if this is the future and your OnePlus 3 is running Android 7.0 Nougat, this specific module might not work on it. You’re welcome to experiment and try it out though. Just be sure to create a Nandroid backup before hand. This way, if it doesn’t work, you can simply boot the OnePlus 3 into Recovery Mode and then restore from the backup you created.

Requirements

Before you can customize the OnePlus 3 Lock Screen Shortcuts, you will first need to do a few things. You will need to have the OnePlus 3 Bootloader unlocked. After that, you need to go ahead and install TWRP on the OnePlus 3 as its custom recovery. Then, you have to root the OnePlus 3 and lastly, you need to install Xposed Framework on the OnePlus 3. I then recommend that you go ahead and create your first Nandroid backup if you haven’t done so already.

Note – Since this requires Xposed Framework, it will only work on Marshmallow (until Xposed Framework is released for Nougat).

OnePlus 3 Lock Screen Shortcuts

1. Launch the Xposed Framework application
2. Tap on the ‘Download’ Option
3. Search for the following Xposed Module. . .
4. Shortcut Lock Screen Mod [MM]
5. . . .and then tap on the module that comes up
6. Swipe over to the ‘Versions’ tab
7. Tap on the ‘Download’ button
8. Then install the Xposed Module after it’s downloaded
9. Go back to the Xposed Framework main menu
10. Tap on the ‘Modules’ option
11. Then tap the check box for the Shortcut Lock Screen Mod module
12. Reboot the OnePlus 3
13. Launch the Shortcut Lock Screen Mod application from the App Drawer
14. Tap on the Left or Right shortcut option
15. Grant the Xposed Module the proper permission
16. Tap on the Left or Right shortcut option again
17. Then choose the application you want in that corner
18. Press the power button after choosing, and check to see if the change has been made

Explanation

There are a couple of ways you can have custom OnePlus 3 Lock Screen shortcuts. I go through both methods in the video above, and I’ll be talking about both of them in this explanation section as well. The first method is to install the Shortcut Lock Screen Mod Xposed Module as described in the tutorial above. This will actually let you change the two default OnePlus 3 Lock Screen shortcuts that are automatically there.

Once you have all the requirements done, you simply need to search for the Xposed Module as described above. Then you need to install it, activate it and then reboot the OnePlus 3 so that the changes go into effect. With the OnePlus 3 booted back up, you will just need to launch the newly created application icon that’s labeled Shortcut Lock Screen Mod. This will have a couple of options to choose from (one for the left shortcut and one for the right), that you can change however you like.

It really is as simple as that. If you change a shortcut to something else, you can instantly test this change. All you have to do is press the Power button to lock the screen and then swipe from one of the corners. You also have the opportunity to remove the check marks from these boxes and that will disable and remove the OnePlus 3 Lock Screen shortcuts as well. There simply will not be any icons in the corners if it is toggled off from here.

Alternatively, you could use the Xposed Module GravityBox to add additional lock screen shortcuts to the OnePlus 3. I also show you how this feature looks as it doesn’t put the lock screen shortcuts at the bottom and instead, puts them toward the middle. You can have up to 5 additional lock screen shortcuts, so it’s really a matter of preference right here.
