Once you have Magisk Manager installed on the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T, you can follow these steps to install and activate your first Magisk Module.
Last week, I walked you through the step by step process for how to install Magisk onto the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T. As you saw, the process is incredibly easy and it just takes following handful of instructions to get it up and running. Magisk is nice and all, but you need some modules installed in order to take advantage of it.
Not everyone is familiar with this process, even though it’s similar to installing an Xposed Module, so I wanted to take the time to write up a guide for it.
I also wanted to use this tutorial as a way to point you to a number of Magisk Modules that have already been tested on the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T. So be sure to check out this XDA thread if you are curious on which Magisk Module you want to install on your device. It’s in the OnePlus 3T forum, but as you can see from the video below, I was able to install and use the Google Assistant Magisk Module on the regular OnePlus 3 without any issues.
As always though, you’ll want to create a Nandroid backup for the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T ahead of time in case you install a Magisk Module that isn’t compatible with your device or your version of Android. There are two ways to install a Magisk Module on the OnePlus 3, and I’ll have covering both of those here today.
Installing a Magisk Module on the OnePlus 3
- Launch the Magisk Manager application on the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T
- Expand the Navigation Drawer from the left side of the screen
- Tap on the Downloads option
- Tap on the Magisk Module you want install
- Tap on the Download & Install button
- Tap on the Reboot button
- Wait for the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T to reboot
or. . .

Explanation
Earlier I mentioned Xposed Modules because of how similar the whole process is when installing a Magisk Module. So, if you have ever used Xposed Framework in the past then you’ll feel right at home here. Not only do you need to install the Magisk Module through Magisk Manager, but it also needs to be activated and you need to reboot the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T so that the changes take effect. By default, the newly installed Magisk Module will be activated though.
So you’ll just need to make sure you reboot the phone so your new feature(s) from the Magisk Module can be activated. There are two different ways of doing this and both are outlined above. The first method is how to install a Magisk Module from the included Magisk Manager application. If you check out the Downloads section of Magisk Manager, then you’ll see there are a number of modules that we can install directly from here.
The process is as simple as tapping on one, telling Magisk Manager to install it and then rebooting your device. However, I should note that not all of these will work on the OnePlus 3 or the OnePlus 3T. They’re just a default set of Magisk Modules that come included in all installs of Magisk Manager. So while some will work (like you saw with Viper4Android in the video above), don’t expect them all to work. Instead, you most likely want to install a Magisk Module on the OnePlus 3 manually and that’s described in the second set of steps above.
So you’ll want to go into the Modules section of Magisk Manager and from here you can see all of your currently installed modules. There’s also a Plus button at the bottom of the screen that can be used to manually install a Magisk Module that you have downloaded from an outside source (like the XDA thread I linked earlier in this guide). I tested out the Google Assistant module from that list and it worked just perfectly on the regular OnePlus 3 (even though it was labeled for the OnePlus 3T).
Which is why I suggest you experiment with installing Magisk Modules. Just be sure you have a recently created Nandroid backup so you can restore from it in case something goes wrong.
