An Icon Pack is a very popular way to customize and personalize your Nexus 5x and today I would like to walk you through the step by step process to do it.
All of our applications on an Android device is represented by a certain icon and some text underneath it. These icons are a way for some applications and services to build brand recognition and they sometimes help the user to quickly and easily find the exact app they are looking for. The thing is, some people do not like that they don’t all follow the same style or theme.
So depending on how many applications you have installed and in your home screens, things can start to look generic and they can sometimes clash with each other since they all have their own styles.
This is where an Icon Pack comes in. An Icon Pack is a set of custom icons that (generally) follow the same sort of style. This could mean that they all follow the same color scheme, or the same shapes or anything else that would help to make icons match with the other icons. This goes great when paired with a certain wallpaper that helps accentuate or match those icons packs. Some icon packs even come with a set of wallpapers that have been picked out because they look good together. However, you don’t have to use those and naturally you can choose to use any wallpaper you want.
This is one of the many reasons why I love Android so much. The amount of changes you can make to customize the software to bet fit you is virtually endless. As far as Icon Packs are concerned, there are thousands to choose from in the Google Play Store. Some are free and some will cost you 1-3 dollars. Remember, these artists and their Icon Packs can consist of 3,000+ different icons and this can take a lot of work. These artists/developers deserve the buck or two that their Icon Packs cost if you truly like how they look.
Nexus 5X Install Icon Pack
There are a number of ways that you can install an Icon Pack on your Nexus 5X and the majority of them involve a custom launcher(and Unicon is the only one in this list requires root). I recommend Nova Launcher as I have been using it on my smartphones and tablets for a few years now. This launcher is extremely customizable and while it can take some time to get things the way you want it, I truly love the number of options that it has. Thankfully though, there are a lot of other launchers that you can use to install an Icon Pack if you don’t like Nova, and I will go over each of them that I know of.
Nova Launcher
- Download Compatible Icon Pack
- Launch Nova Settings
- Tap on the ‘Look& Feel’ Option
- Tap on the ‘Icon Theme’ Option
- Choose the Icon Pack You Downloaded
Action Launcher 3
- Download Compatible Icon Pack
- Launch Action Launcher 3 Settings
- Tap on the ‘Display’ Option
- Tap on the ‘Icon Pack’ Option
- Choose the Icon Pack You Downloaded
ADW Launcher
- Download Compatible Icon Pack

- Tap and Hold on an Icon
- Tap on the ‘Edit’ Option
- Tap on the Icon
- Swipe over to the Icon Pack You Downloaded
- Choose an Icon to Use
Unicon
- Download the Compatible Icon Pack
- Launch the Unicon Application
- Tap on the Icon Pack You Downloaded
- Tap on the ‘Apply’ Option
- Tap the ‘Restart Launcher & Apps’ Option
