After being available on mobile phones, Netflix is bringing it’s games to TVs and desktop browsers this week, but only in Canada and the UK.
Though it intends to add more regions and devices later on, users need a mobile controller app for playing the games on TV and a keyboard/mouse to play on a desktop. Initially, the streaming platform has two titles, Molehew’s Mining Adventure and Oxenfree, with more in the pipeline.
Netflix Games on More Devices
Though a market leader, Netflix has been doing everything to compete against it’s rivals lately. From introducing ad-based cheap plans to pumping billions into making new content, Netflix is fiercely innovating. The latest in this pursuit is creating games surrounding it’s titles to keep the viewers entertained and sticking to its platform.
Some games are already famous and have been available on iOS and Android platforms for over a year. Now, the company is bringing them to TVs and PCs, as announced by their vice-president of games, Mike Verdu.
“Our goal has always been to have a game for everyone, and we are working hard to meet members where they are with an accessible, smooth and ubiquitous service.”
This beta testing of games is currently available to a few Netflix subscribers in the UK and Canada on Amazon Fire TV streaming media players, Chromecast with Google TV, LG TVs, NVIDIA Shield TV, Roku devices and TVs, Samsung smart TVs and Walmart ONN.
While the company plans to add more regions and devices later on, the beta testing has only two games initially; Oxenfree and Molehew’s Mining Adventure. Interested subscribers in the available areas may try these games with a dedicated controller app, which Netflix released last week.
First, select a game on your TV and scan the displayed QR code with your phone to use it as your controller. The two games will also be available on desktop browsers(via Netflix’s website) in the coming weeks, where you can play with your keyboard and mouse.
