MongoDB on Saturday informed it’s customers of a data breach incident, where an unauthorised access by unknown parties to it’s corporate systems had leaked customer account metadata and their contact information.
Assuring that it found no signs that data stored on the MongoDB Atlas was stolen, the company asked it’s customers to be vigilant about potential phishing attacks and recommends enabling MFA and rotating passwords.
Data Breach at MongoDB
MongoDB, the open-source database management platform, was breached by unauthorised actors last week, exposing customer account data. Informing this incident to the customers, MongoDB’s CISO Lena Smart said they’re investigating the incident for further details.
While there’s no information on the culprit and how they had breached, MongoDB said they detected the hack on their corporate systems on Wednesday evening(December 13th) and immediately started investigating it.

As we wait for more details to roll in, MongoDB says it’s unaware if any data stored on the MongoDB Atlas was leaked during the incident. Anyhow, the company admits that the perpetrators have been active on their systems for a while before being detected and thwarted.
“We are still conducting an active investigation and believe that this unauthorized access has been going on for some period of time before discovery,”
MongoDB recommends all customers to enable multi-factor authentication on their accounts, rotate passwords and remain vigilant about potential phishing and social engineering attacks.
