Microsoft reportedly lets it’s Windows 11 users play a surfing game during the update installation, making the process fun as you wait.
The Surf game is embedded into the Microsoft Edge browser and you can continue the game after the installation through the browser. While it’s found out to be only testing the game on the Surface Laptop Studio 2, Microsoft may make it available to their other Windows 11 devices too, later.
Playing Games During Software Updation
Installing a Windows Update is always a tedious task. Though Microsoft has made it easier and faster, it’s still a tedious task and takes significant time. Well, to make this process fun, Microsoft is reportedly letting Windows 11 users play a game during the software update process.
As noted by The Verge, people running Windows 11 on a Surface Laptop Studio 2 can play a game called Surf during the software update process. Surf is a board surfing game integrated into the Microsoft Edge browser, initially launched in May 2020.
This classic SkiFree game is part of Microsoft’s Entertainment Pack 3 for Windows 3.0, released in October 1991. So people playing it will feel entertained and nostalgic if they’re old enough! Starting the update process, users are presented with the game screen to start the play.
And if by any chance you’re supposed to leave it hanging, you can continue playing the game through the Microsoft Edge browser, accessible at edge://surf URL. The game can also work without an internet connection.
Microsoft’s decision to add a game to the Windows install process helps engage users during potentially lengthy installation procedures, especially during the system restorations via Windows Backup. While the move is appreciable, it’s unclear if the surfing game is only available on specific Microsoft or Windows 11 devices. Hopefully, we will wait to see them all on Windows 11 devices, soon perhaps.
