Five months after it’s launch in July, Meta has opened the Threads app for European Union users today. The extended access will help Meta have 100 million monthly active users.
Furthermore, today’s official access will remove the hassle for EU users to use a VPN for accessing the platform and create an account for post interactions.
Meta Threads for EU
The most hyped social media platform – Threads, is now officially available for users in the European Union. This move was announced by Mark Zuckerberg himself on Threads, saying, “Today we’re opening Threads to more countries in Europe. Welcome everyone 👋“.
Meta delayed it’s launch in the EU to comply with regulatory affairs, as the EU has one of the most stringent rules on privacy and data security. The company was fined multiple times for billions of dollars earlier and continues to fight several lawsuits today.
While it took time to roll Threads out officially, many EU users have accessed the platform using VPNs. Meta understood this and eventually launched Threads with limited features – EU users can access the platform for viewing posts but can’t interact with them.
Well, now they can. Threads has placed a countdown timer on it’s home page since last week, pointing towards a December 14 launch in the region. And today’s rollout will help the company touch the 100 million monthly active users-mark, as Zuckerberg said they’re clinging to that milestone during Meta’s Q3 earnings call.
