In a private meeting held on Thursday, Meta reportedly showcased the UI of it’s upcoming Twitter-like social media app to it’s employees.
Meta has been working on this new platform for months, as it saw a need after Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter created a ruckus – that pushed several celebrities to find a stable alternative. While there’s no specific date for this new platform’s launch, reports say that celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Dalai Lama are already tagged in this project.
A New Text-Focused Social Media App
The new Twitter under Elon Musk is undoubtedly a mess. From reinstating controversial accounts to revamping the Blue subscription, Twitter under Musk’s leadership has shaken everyone on the platform. Though it’s not steadily rebuilding the trust, many have already made up their mind to move out for good.
Cashing on this opportunity is Meta, which is working on a text-focused social media platform similar to Twitter – which it confirmed in March. Well, now, a private meeting held on Thursday showcased the UI of Meta’s upcoming app for it’s employees.
Codenamed Project 92, the shared images seem so similar to Twitter – with like, reply and comment features resembling the current Twitter UI. Saying this as their “response to Twitter”, Meta’s chief product officer Chris Cox said, “We’ve been hearing from creators and public figures who are interested in having a platform that is sanely run, that they believe that they can trust and rely upon for distribution“.
This upcoming platform is reported to run on ActivityPub, a networking protocol that also empowers Mastodon, another decentralised social media platform. While there’s no specific date for the launch of this new social media platform yet, reports say that a few celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Dalai Lama are already on the project.
