MediaTek has partnered with Nvidia to use it’s graphics hardware and AI technologies in it’s chips and power automobiles of all segments in the future.
While a MediaTek chip with the above-said Nvidia technologies will come in late 2025, Qualcomm on the other hand is also working hard in this space. As Nvidia’s AI chips and features are crucial in the Generative AI field, few OEMs are trying to bring at least some of them to the automobile space.
Nvidia Technologies in Automobiles
MediaTek, the long-known name after Qualcomm in the mobile chipset business is now jumping into the automobile space, with the help of Nvidia. On Monday, both companies announced a partnership to use Nvidia’s AI hardware and features in MediaTek chips for automobiles, ranging from luxury to mass-market models.
Though Qualcomm has already secured some partnerships with Nvidia in this space, letting MediaTek enter will increase the competitiveness for good. The new partnership between Nvidia and MediaTek comes after the former’s market valuation is nearing $1 trillion, after projections of high demand for it’s AI accelerators.
The rise of generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Google Bard has fuelled the demand for AI graphic cards – where Nvidia excels and the auto-makers driving towards self-driving and better connectivity features will only increase this demand.
A MediaTek chip comprising Nvidia’s AI stuff will come in late 2025, says MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai. Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang on the other hand said that AI expertise will be of existential importance to companies and careers alike – to students and the wider global audience in the partnership announcement event.
