LG G5: How to Boot into Safe Mode

If you’re having trouble with battery life, over heating or something that 3rd-party apps have caused, let me show you how to boot the LG G5 into Safe Mode.

LG G5 Safe Mode is critical for troubleshooting a number of issues that can happen to our smartphones. With over 1 million applications in the Google Play Store, there are bound to be some apps that simply aren’t coded properly. Or maybe they were coded properly a long time ago and just haven’t been updated to take advantage of Android’s newest features.

Whatever the case is, there can sometimes be issues like overheating, poor battery life and poor performance that can be attributed to a 3rd-party application.

These issues can also be attributed to the core Android OS too though. So it’s vital to be able to figure out if the issue is caused by an application or the Android OS itself. You could go through and simply disable or uninstall all of your 3rd-party applications but what if they aren’t the cause of the trouble? Then you’ve just wasted more time than you need because of the Safe Mode option. When you boot the LG G5 into Safe Mode, the Android OS will disable all 3rd-party applications so they aren’t allowed to be launched or even run in the background.

So let me first show you how to boot the LG G5 into Safe Mode and then I’ll talk about what you should do while you are in this special boot mode.

LG G5 Safe Mode

1. Press and Hold the Power Button Down
2. Wait for the Power Menu to Appear
3. Press and Hold on the ‘Power Off’ Option
4. Then Tap on the ‘Turn On’ Option
5. And Wait for the LG G5 to Reboot into Safe Mode

Explanation

So as I mentioned, we want to boot into the LG G5 Safe Mode if we ever feel that our LG G5 is not functioning properly. This can be from our LG G5 overheating. . .this can be from our LG G5 using more battery juice than it should. . .this can be from the LG G5 not performing properly. . .and there are a number of other issues that can be attributed to 3rd-party applications that simply aren’t functioning properly.

When we boot the LG G5 into Safe Mode, all of our 3rd-party applications will be disabled. Sadly, this will not disable any application that has come pre-loaded on the device. So some of the Google applications won’t be considered 3rd-party, some of LG’s apps won’t be considered 3rd-party and any other pre-loaded applications that LG or your wireless carrier have pre-installed will not be considered 3rd-party. Those will continue to function as normal while the apps you manually installed via the Play Store will be disabled.

While we’re in the LG G5 Safe Mode, we will see the Safe Mode watermark at the bottom left of the screen at all times. This is needed so that you don’t forget the LG G5 is in Safe Mode. While we’re in the LG G5 Safe Mode, you’ll also notice that all of your 3rd-party applications are grayed out. This is another visual indicator so you know you’re in Safe Mode, and so you know which applications are currently disabled. If you tap on one of these grayed out apps to try and launch it, you’ll get the toast message that you see in the image above.

Now, if you’re LG G5 is having trouble with overheating, battery life, performance or anything else, booting up into Safe Mode should be your first troubleshooting step. No matter what issue you’re having, you’ll want to boot up into Safe Mode and use the device to see if the same thing happens. If battery life is the problem, then use the device in Safe Mode for a day and see if the issue persists.

The same goes for overheating, performance and anything else too. Use the device in Safe Mode for a while and see if you can reproduce the issue you’re having. If you cannot, then there is a 3rd-party application that is the culprit. You’ll then need to go through all of the apps you’ve installed from the Play Store and see which one fixes the trouble. If you can reproduce the issue though, then it’s not caused by a 3rd-party application and can probably be attributed to the core Android OS.
