LG G4: How to Install Xposed Framework

For anyone who likes to tinker with various aspects of the Android OS, let me show you how to install the Xposed Framework on the LG G4.

Xposed Framework is an amazing piece of software as it allows you to install various ‘modules’ onto your LG G4. These modules can add, remove or change bits of code that Android users, and in turn, lets you customize the operating system to your heart’s content. Xposed has its own repository of what they call Xposed Modules that you can install from. These have been created by developers and submitted to the community for approval.

Assuming there isn’t any malicious code in it, you’ll see it approved and available for download directly from the Xposed Framework application.

Requirements

You will need to have root access on your LG G4 before you can begin this tutorial. If you don’t already have that, then follow the how to root the LG G4 tutorial that I have already put together. There are also tutorials available for the T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and International variants as well. Once done, I recommend that you install a custom recovery onto your LG G4, if you can. If you can’t though, that is okay, just look at the second tutorial shown here and you can do it that way. If you do have a custom recovery, I recommend that you create a Nandroid backup of the LG G4 before beginning anything listed below. Just in case.

LG G4 Install Xposed

1. Download the Xposed Framework APK to the LG G4
2. Download the 64-bit Installer to the LG G4
3. Download the 64-bit Uninstaller to the LG G4
4. Download and Install ES File Explorer
5. Boot the LG G4 into Recovery Mode
6. When in TWRP’s Custom Recovery, Tap the Install Button
7. Browse to and Install the Xposed Framework .zip File
8. Swipe the Blue Arrow to the Right to Install
9. After the Installation is Complete, Press the Home Button
10. Tap on the ‘Reboot’ Option
11. Tap on the ‘System’ Option
12. When Back in the Android OS, Launch the ES File Explorer Application
13. Browse to and Tap on the Xposed Framework APK File(enable unknown sources if needed)
14. Install the .apk File and Reboot the LG G4
15. Reboot the LG G4 and Then Launch the Newly Installed Xposed Application

LG G4 Install Xposed Without Custom Recovery

1. Download the Xposed Framework APK to the LG G4
2. Download the 64-bit Installer to the LG G4
3. Download the 64-bit Uninstaller
4. Download and Install ES File Explorer
5. Sign Up for the Google+ Flashfire Community
6. Then Click on the ‘Become a Tester’ Button Here
7. Download and Install the Flashfire Application
8. Launch the Flashfire Application
9. Allow Flashfire to Have Root Access
10. Accept the Disclaimer Warning
11. Tap the Plus Button(FAB in the bottom right)
12. Tap on the ‘Flash ZIP or OTA’ Option
13. Browse to and Install the Xposed Framework .zip File You Downloaded(this can take around 10-30 minutes)
14. Do Not Check the Automount Option
15. When Back in the Android OS, Launch the ES File Explorer Application
16. Browse to and Tap on the Xposed Framework APK File(enable unknown sources if needed)
17. Install the .apk File and Reboot the LG G4
18. Reboot the LG G4 and Then Launch the Newly Installed Xposed Application

Note – If you run into any issues like a bootloop or something, you can flash the uninstaller that you downloaded(or restore from a Nandroid backup).

Explanation

As mentioned, you can install Xposed with either of these methods. Since there are some variants of the LG G4 bootloader that hasn’t been unlocked, you have the choice to install Xposed with Chainfire’s Flashfire application. The choice is yours though as they will both give you the same results. I have read reports that Xposed is not installed properly when using Flashfire. These people have said that they needed to install it again(sometimes 2 or 3 times more) before the installation actually working properly.

No matter which method you choose, you’re going to need to download the .zip and .apk files for Xposed Framework. The .zip file is the installer of the framework and the .apk is the application front-end. Once those have been downloaded to the LG G4, go ahead and download ES File Explorer. If you have a different file explorer installed(or prefer a different one) then you can use that one instead. Choose your method of installing the framework(via custom recovery or Flashfire) and then install the .apk file afterwards.

Then reboot the LG G4 and launch the Xposed Framework application. If you are prompted to press an install button from here, then do so and follow those steps. If not, then your job is done and you can now begin downloading and installing various Xposed Modules. If you don’t have a custom recovery though, please be careful and only install modules that have been confirmed to work on the LG G4. Installing the wrong module can put your LG G4 into a bootloop and it will force you to do a factory reset to fix it. This is why I recommend doing a Nandroid backup with a custom recovery if you have the option.
