Jaybird Run vs Bose SoundSport Free: Specs
Build & Design
Three things heavily factor in the design of wireless earbuds: aesthetics, comfort, and style. Neither the Jaybird Run nor the SoundSport Free completes this trifecta, but Bose checks two out of the three.
The design is something which attracts us in many ways. The SoundSport Free supports a much sportier vibe with the deluxe appearance and comes with durable yet matte-black casing and not to forget, IPX4 water-resistant protection that is just cherry on top for any active listeners and fitness buffs. The different-size ear fins present a customized fit, locking into the concha to keep the earbuds stabilized while running.
Another detail that caught our eye is the rubberized finish around the earbuds that keeps the buttons safe from moisture damage. The main disappointment with the SoundSport Free wireless earbuds is that the earbuds are quite bulky and heft of these earbuds which is 0.3 ounces, and 1.3 x 1 x 1.2 inches, make them uncomfortable to wear after an hour or so.
A glossy plastic fades from black to deep golden brown which makes it look subtle and yields a premium factor look. People who love more of bass will find SoundSport freaking amazing. Bose SoundSport Free offers a pool of bass. So, if you are someone who practically tunes out the world and gets lost in the music, then maybe Bose SoundSport Free is for you.
As far as design is concerned, the matte-finished Jaybird Run earbuds are simple, reasonably stylish and not overly large which can sometimes be the case with true wireless headphones. Unlike over-ear headphones, which often become something of a fashion statement, truly wireless headphones should be inconspicuous.
The Price Tag
When pitted against each other, the Jaybird Run will cost you $179 and the Bose SoundSport Free will cost you $199. Each makes compelling arguments to justify their respective price tags. As far as the price is concerned, these two earbuds just make more difference.
Next up we have to figure out which out of the two offers the best comfort and freakily amazing sound quality. After all what else is more important than comfort and sound quality, regardless of the price of course.
Let’s discuss which one out of the two-win with flying colors.
Sound Quality
There’s no doubt that over the years Bose has earned a sterling reputation for its premium audio performance. But, disheartening as it is, Jaybirds Run hasn’t. The Jaybirds Run stands out as the company’s best earphones to date. The Jaybird Run earbuds fail to match the depth and transparency of the Bose’s SoundSport Free.
Buying a pricy wireless earphone and not getting the benefit of a full range of sound isn’t fair. But, the SoundSport Free breaks free and provides an experience of a full range of sound, which is remarkable. The earbud with balancing clarity and fidelity offers flipping great crispy sound.
Bose SoundSport Free is great for listeners who want to accentuate bass at a slightly high volume, along with well-balanced mids and highs. Instrument separation is another area where the earbuds excel, allowing you to record unique sounds that would go unheard on most other earbuds/headphones.
The Bose SoundSport Free earbuds also have their flaws. When you tend to listen to music at high volumes, the sound leaks into the environment but stands out with no sound distortion.
Comfort and Passive noise cancellation
Passive noise cancellation is a feature that I would love to have in my earbuds since I love to listen to music at high volume. If you are just like me, then this information will come in handy for you. The Jaybird Run stands out, while the Bose SoundSport Free does not support the feature of Passive Noise Cancellation.
However, the Bose SoundSport Free unique design makes it a more comfortable wireless earbuds ever made. The Bose SoundSport Free earbuds have more grip and provide comfort even if it’s been 1 hour or so using it.
As far as sports and physical activities are concerned, the Bose SoundSport Free is the most preferable option to go with. It’s subjective as everyone has different shape of ears and do different types of physical activities. But Bose SoundSport Free stays on more securely while running as compared to the Jaybird Run. The Jaybird Run simply falls out while running, however, they work just fine if you are walking.
The Calling Headset
As a calling headset, neither is much to brag about, but we found the Air Pods more consistent for phone calls and Skype sessions. Voice-dialing operates smoothly, plus you get to hear conversations through both earbuds. The mic, unlike any other wireless earbuds, picks up clear vocals and generates decent clarity in quiet settings. But, being outdoors and surrounded by noise is a different story since the ambient noise and wind in the background produce muffling on the other end.
Taking calls on the SoundSport Free resulted in acceptable sound, but the earbuds struggle to block out background noise.
Battery Life
As far as the Battery life is concerned, both of these earbuds do not differ much. The Jaybird Run has roughly 4 hours of battery life while the Bose SoundSport Free comes packed with 5 hours of battery life. However, both of these earbuds claims Fast-charging feature. The Jaybird Run claims that you can get 1 hour of battery life if you plug it in charge for 5 minutes, while SoundSport Free claims that you can get 45 minutes of battery life if you plug it on charge for 15 minutes.
The companion app
As both of these wireless earbuds supports a companion app – the Bose SoundSport Free and Jaybird Run – are by default the winner in this category. However, the Bose Connect app doesn’t have tons of options, but it offers enough to extend serviceability.
The Find My Bud feature is a godsend for those who commonly misplace their buds, displaying the last time and place you used them. Besides that, you are provided with standard features like a Standby Timer, firmware support, and playback controls. With a standard equalizer to tweak the sound profile, the Jaybird Run wireless earbuds have more to offer to the mobile users than Bose SoundSport Free.
Buttons
The Jaybird Run has limited functionality of a single button which tends to give it poor feedback, and complaints on the difficulty to press the button while it hears. The Bose SoundSport Free scores over in this place with high functionality and simple intuitive buttons for play, pause, volume up and down and comes with a digital assistant button. Isn’t it amazing?
Wrapping up
So which is better? That’s a tricky one since the Jaybird Run & the Bose SoundSport Free are similar in many aspects. Both provide amazing experience of using wireless earphones. The Jaybird Run provides you with the functionality of customizable EQ, better fit, sleek design and is waterproof for all that matters.
When talking about The Bose SoundSport Free, they are a bit bulky but are sweat resistant. They offer amazing fit, connectivity, and mind-blowing sound quality.
Jaybird Run vs Bose SoundSport Free? With all comparisons laid in front of you, Bose SoundSport Free is the showstopper and Jaybird Run did not live up to the expectations.
