In response to a Bluesky user, Jack Dorsey admits recommending Elon Musk for buying Twitter was a mistake – and he regrets it!
The former Twitter CEO also said the Board shouldn’t have forced Musk to take the deal, nor the latter should have walked away by paying the penalty. Agreeing that Twitter went far south after the deal, Dorsey said he’s glad that Bluesky is coming up to replace it.
Admitting a Bad Decision
Jack Dorsey, the ex-CEO of Twitter has just admitted the recommendation of Elon Musk to acquire Twitter was a mistake – as the company’s status has now derailed in most cases. Less than a year since Musk took over the reign at Twitter, the social media platform has created significant havoc in several communities and has been an important talk in the tech community.
Though he’s trying to stabilize it now, the damage has already been done and Jack Dorsey regrets recommending Elon Musk for buying Twitter! This was explained on Bluesky this week, where Dorsey said he shouldn’t have chosen Elon Musk as the “singular solution” he trusted with the company.
To the unknown, Bluesky is a decentralised social media network funded by Jack Dorsey – similar to Mastodon – and has been attracting notable personalities recently. Though he started this in 2019, he was named as one of the board of directors of Bluesky just last year.
While it’s gradually staging itself as a new and ideal social media, Elon Musk is trying to increase user trust on Twitter too. He had recently opened up the platform’s tweet recommendations algorithm, while also promising to open source the entire code eventually.
While it’s yet to happen, a user on the Bluesky platform asked Jack Dorsey “Do you think Elon has proven to be the best possible steward for the platform? Answer earnestly“.
To which, Dorsey said “No! Nor do I think he acted right after realizing his timing was bad.” Admitting that the company went far south after Musk’s takeover, Dorsey continued to criticise the deal saying that the Twitter board shouldn’t have forced the sale, or Elon Musk should’ve walked away paying the $1 billion fine.
