Following the radiation concerns raised by the French regulator, Apple said it’ll soon pass a software update to bring it’s iPhone 12 into compliance.
Apple reiterates that the software update is to suffice the special testing practice by the regulator and is not a safety concern. The regulator said it’d test the update once it’s available and will bring the device into compliance list if it does make any difference.
A Software Update to Settle Concerns
The week-long debate on the iPhone 12 emitting more radiation than necessary in France is about to settle with a new software update from Apple. The Cupertino-based company said on Friday that it’ll soon pass an update to the iPhone 12 handsets’ in France to address the regulatory concerns.
For those who don’t know, France’s radio frequency regulator, ANFR, said that internal testing found that the iPhone 12 emits more electromagnetic waves than permitted, making it a hazardous device.
The ministers argued that the above-accepted radiation levels were violating and dangerous, and people could continue using the phones. Yet, the ANFR ordered Apple to “remove the iPhone 12 from the French market from September 12” and recall every iPhone 12 it sold in the country!
Though Apple hit back with explanations and proof that it’s devices are still compliant, the regulator hasn’t listened and since it’s not feasible to recall the sold units, Apple decided to pass a software update to existing teams to settle the concerns. Further, the company said;
“This is related to a specific testing protocol used by French regulators and not a safety concern.”
ANFR said it’ll test the software update once it’s available, and if it made a difference to the electromagnetic waves the device emitted, it shall bring the model into compliance with European standards once again, and the withdrawal order would be lifted.
