It’s been almost 5 months since we were graced with Apple’s latest iPhone, the iPhone 11. But rumors of the next iPhone, the iPhone 12 has already started flying around. And latest rumors seem to suggest that the next iPhone will look rather identical to the current model.
This rumor comes from Japanese website Mac Otakara. According to them, the iPhone 12 will look remarkably similar to the current model, with a slight variation in the colors and the shape of the edges. The edges will supposedly be a little curved and Apple will go with a new navy blue color in place of the current model’s mid-night green. But other than this, it will still feature a strikingly similar metal chassis.
Before this rumor from Mac Otakara, it was widely speculated that the 2020 models of iPhones would have a completely new design. This rumor reportedly comes from an unnamed Chinese supplier with connections to Apple.
iPhone 12: What To Expect?
Although, it is still way to early to predict anything definite about the iPhone 12, there are a few important points we can discuss and speculate on.
There will reportedly be three different versions of the iPhone 12. Firstly there will be a 5.4 inch version. It will have a height that is somewhere between that of the iPhone SE and the iPhone 8. The second is a 6.1 inch version. It will have a height that is somewhere between that of the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro. Finally, there will be a 6.7 inch version. It will be slightly taller than the current flagship, iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The 5.4 inch version and the 6.1 inch version iPhones will have a two rear-camera setup whereas the 6.7 inch version will have a triple camera setup.
Other than this, as we have already stated above, the design will look vary similar to that of the iPhone 11. The edges will be slightly rounder and a new navy blue colored iPhone could be introduced. (The color could be stylized as ‘phantom blue’).
TouchID
Also Apple was recently awarded a new patent for an OLED display with built-in fingerprint sensor. The display will reportedly work in two modes. The first mode will allow the TouchID fingerprint sensor to work and the other will facilitate regular touch sensing.
According to the Patent that was filed, the new OLED display will also be able to differentiate between water and finger. Isn’t it frustrating when your phone’s display stops working just because your fingers are a little wet? This could be an interesting bit of technology from Apple.
While all this sounds great, we are not quite sure yet when Apple will introduce this feature onto its phones. We could see it on the iPhone 12, or we might have to wait another year.
Low-cost iPhone 9
On a slightly related note, Apple will reportedly be releasing a low-cost iPhone 9. It will be a replacement for the previous budget iPhone, the iPhone SE, and will be priced at $399. The 4.7-inch iPhone could be available for sale on March.
