The unemployment winter hasn’t settled even a year after COVID-19, as tech companies continue to lay off employees amidst harsh economic conditions. One among them is Intel, the US semiconductor giant preparing for a fresh set of layoffs.
As revealed to California’s Employment Development Department, Intel is terminating about 315 employees across various departments on August 31st. Well, some staff may move to new positions internally, says Intel.
The affected employees include 175 from the company’s Santa Clara headquarters, 89 in Folsom and 51 in San Jose. Talking about roles, affected people belong to over three dozen departments, including 11 from GPU software development, two graphics hardware engineers, an engineering manager, four engineers working on AI software and 28 engineers and architects working on cloud software and solutions.
The bunch also includes a general manager and an Intel fellow(a prestigious title given to the best technical employee internally). Intel reported having over 131,000 employees by the end of 2022, as per a regulatory filing from January and with the company dumping people regularly since then, this number will significantly decline, especially at the California offices.
