HTC 10: How to Change the Color Profile

The HTC 10 gives you the option to choose from a saturated color profile, or an sRGB color profile, and it also lets you adjust the color temperature.

How colors of photos, videos and even everyday app/website content looks on a phone can be a big deal for a segment of the community. Samsung smartphones and tablets that use the company’s Super AMOLED displays are known for their punchy, saturated look.

This is a major selling point for a lot of people who spend hundreds of dollars on a device. However, it can also be a reason why someone refuses to use one too.

This is why Samsung started letting their users pick between a number of color profiles, and the HTC 10 gives the customer this choice as well. In fact, HTC goes a step beyond this with the HTC 10 and gives the user the ability to adjust the color temperature for the current color profile they’re using too. This, along with all of the theme options just adds yet another layer of personalization for the HTC 10.

So today I’m going too show you how to change the color profile for the HTC 10, and I also want to show you how to adjust the color temperature for it as well.

Explanation

We’ve been seeing more of an emphasis on color profiles and color temperature and display calibration within the smartphone market lately. AnandTech blasted the OnePlus 3 for its horrible display calibration and the company released an sRGB mode in an update just a couple of weeks later. We’ve been seeing this on Samsung devices for a while as well, and the HTC 10 has this feature too.

So to switch the color profile for the HTC 10, we’ll need to launch the Settings application first. From here, scroll down and tap on the Display, Gestures & Buttons that you see in the Phone section of the Settings. On this page, there is a Color Profile option that you’ll want to tap and then at the bottom are the two different profiles that you can choose from. Vivid is optimized on making the colors stand out, while sRGB is optimized at keeping the colors as accurate as possible.

Now, if you feel the color white looks warmer or colder then you would like, then you’ll be happy to hear that you can also adjust the color temperature of the display. So after you have picked a color profile you like the most, tap on the 3-dot button to the right of that profile. This will bring up a slider that lets you adjust the color profile and make it warmer or colder than it is set to by default.

Just like with the HTC 10 Color Profile, this is all a personal preference so if you don’t know what you like most then you should experiment. Most people who care about the color temperature will know if they prefer the display to look warmer or colder. Warmer colors make everything look more orange and red, while colder colors will make everything look more blue.

If you don’t know which you like better, feel free to experiment by changing the temperature and then using it for a day or two. Then go back and adjust it the other way and use with the new setting for a day or two. You can always come back and tap the Reset to Default button to make it just like it was before you started experimenting with this feature.
