Sony says that openness is important to them and this is why they have made it incredibly easy to unlock the bootloader of their Android smartphones. Today I will walk you through the short step by step process about how to unlock the bootloader of your brand new Sony Xperia Z3 smartphone.
A little less than two months ago I showed you some of the first photos of Sony’s 2014 flagship smartphone. These were leaked before Sony even had a chance to announce the device at IFA 2014. We saw the Xperia Z3 from all sides and I was very impressed with how the design had evolved over the years. It was about a month ago that Sony was able to announce the Xperia Z3 and this is when we got the first official details of the device. It’s take them a month to start shipping the Z3 to retailers but now we’re starting to see the smartphone in customers’ hands.
The first thing a lot of people do is unlock their smartphone to today I wanted to tell you how to unlock the Sony Xperia Z3.
Now that we have the warning out of the way, let’s get to unlocking that bootloader of the Xperia Z3. As I said earlier, Sony has made this process incredibly easy for us. We don’t even need to connect the device to a computer in order to run ADB commands(like we need to do on Nexus smartphones). All of this can be done quickly and easily, directly from a hidden menu on the Xperia Z3.
Warning:
Unlocking the bootloader for the Sony Xperia Z3 will degrade the quality of the camera. The bootloader for the Sony Xperia Z3 holds some important DRM security keys that are used in the 20.7MP rear-facing camera. I know that a lot of us what to root and install custom ROMs on the Xperia Z3 but you have to decide on whether or not this is acceptable to you. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the DRM security keys from your device and the photos will come out exceptionally worse than they would if you had left the bootloader alone. Removing the security keys will not make your device susceptible to malware, it simply removes the algorithms that Sony uses to make the photos look so good.
