The multi-monitor setup on Windows 11 has been recently introduced which is an amazing feature. Basically, it is opening more than two windows simultaneously.
Many computers allow the users to connect two different monitors to the same computer simultaneously. This is called a multi-monitor setup. It requires you to have a video card with two ports for video out, such as VGA, HDMI, DVI, or DisplayPort to connect two monitors. It’s a very cool feature that allows users to split the screen. That means now you can play games and do your PPT at the same time.
This feature allows you to split the window and use two monitors as one big screen. Another cool feature of dual monitor setup is displaying your taskbar across multiple monitors on Windows 11. Here is how to show or hide Taskbar across multi-monitor setup on Windows 11.
Ways Show Or Hide Taskbar Across Multi-Monitor Setup On Windows 11
There are two methods, Windows Settings, and Registry Editor. Both the ways are explained here.
Method 1: Using Windows Settings
One of the ways you can display or hide your Taskbar across multiple monitors on Windows 11 is via Windows Settings. Here are the steps:
First, go and click on the start and then settings to open Windows settings.
The window will open. Then go to personalization and open Taskbar settings.
Here you see a section called Taskbar behavior. Click on it to manage other settings.
Once you click, a window will open, and you will see an option called “show my Taskbar on all displays”. There will be a checkbox right beside it. Click it, and your taskbar will show across multiple monitors.
There will be another option called “When using multiple displays” from where you can choose whether you want to display your app icons on all monitors or just the main monitor. If you click on that, a small bar will open up, and there will be three options.
All taskbars
Main taskbar and task where the window is open
Taskbar where the window is open
“All taskbars” is the default option, but you can choose any other option.
Method 2: Through Registry Editor
The second method is to use registry editor to show or hide Taskbar on multiple monitors on Windows 11. N.B. Do not edit the Windows registry unless you are confident about doing so AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING! Microsoft have issued the following warning with respect to the Registry Editor: “Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to re-install Windows to correct them.
Anyways, Here’s what you need to do:
First, open the Registry Editor from your computer. To do that, press Win+R then type ‘Regedit and press Enter. After that, click on the ‘Yes’ option in the UAC prompt.
Then go to the following folder.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
There you can see a DWORD value named MMTaskbarEnabled. If you cannot find it right away, right-click on the Advanced > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and save it as MMTaskbarEnabled. Now double click on that and save the Value data as 1.
After that, press “Ctrl+Alt+Del” and select the Task Manager option. Look for the Windows Explorer process and click to restart Windows Explorer on Windows 11. After your computer reboot, you can see Your Taskbar on multiple displays.
Now, if you want to change the behavior for your app icons across the dual monitor, you have to create another DWORD value in the Advanced folder and save it as MMTaskbarMode.
Double-click and set the Value data as follows:
- Show taskbar buttons on all taskbars: 0
- Show taskbar buttons on the main taskbar and taskbar where the window is open: 1
- Where the window is open, show taskbar buttons on the taskbar: 2
Then click ‘OK’ to save and restart the Windows Explorer process.
