Many people are having issues with voice-over LTE and voice-over Wi-Fi on the Google Pixel 6 series and the Google Pixel 7 Series are not working in some unsupported countries. This is not something we have experience with, but this week, we found a way to enable voice-over LTE and voice-over Wi-Fi on Google Pixel devices.
In this article, we will show you how to enable voice-over LTE and voice-over Wi-Fi. However, we can’t guarantee that this will work for everyone, but it is certainly worth trying. Many people across different carriers in multiple countries have reported that this method works for them.
Requirements
This method does not require root access but it does require that you have Shizuku installed and running in the background for it’s initial setup process. We have already written a guide on how to install Shizuku on Android smartphones and run it in the background.
The guide details how to install Shizuku and get it’s service up and running in the background, so if you are not familiar with this process, be sure to check that article. Now that you have installed Shizuku on your Google Pixel devices let’s start with the method.
Enable VoLTE / VoWiFi Features on Google Pixel 6 & Pixel 7
Installation and Setup
- Open up the Shizuku application and make sure that it is indeed running.
- Download the APK file for a mod called pixel voice over LTE patch. You can download the APK file from the direct download link. You can also check the mods GitHub Source page for further details.
- Once the APK file has been downloaded, install it the way you normally sideload a third-party app.
- After installation, tap on the app and open it.
- As long as you have the Shizuku app installed and running in the background, you should see a prompt there asking you for access to it.
- Tap the allow all the time option.
Activation Process
- Now, you can begin to activate voice over LTE or voice over Wi-Fi on your Google Pixel smartphone.
- At the bottom of the app, you will see the home tab and the tabs for any SIM cards you have installed on your device.
- Tap on the SIM card that you want to enable voice over LTE for; after that, you should see a couple of toggles at the top.
- One is for enabling voice over LTE, and the other is for enabling voice over Wi-Fi.
- If your wireless carrier does not support voice-over Wi-Fi, then enabling this toggle will not force it to work. This seems to be common among multiple companies in Asia.
- However, we see reports of the voice-over Wi-Fi toggle and the voice-over LTE toggle working across Europe. Still, even then, it will depend on the capabilities of your wireless carrier.
- Once you have enabled the voice-over LTE or voice-over Wi-Fi toggles or both, you must reboot the Google Pixel 6/7 series device that you have two to three times every five minutes.
- We know this instruction sounds weird, but it takes some time for your phone to register with the wireless carrier after enabling these mods.
- You will have to reboot the phone two to three times every five minutes until you see that voice-over LTE or voice-over Wi-Fi is working properly.
Confirmation of Activation
- One of the ways that you can check to ensure that it has been activated properly is by opening up the pixel IMS application and looking for the IMS status section within the home tab.
- Normally, it will say unregistered, but if this patch worked for you, you will see it say registered for that SIM card.
- We have seen more success with this mod when enabling voice-over LTE than voice-over Wi-Fi. But even then, there is no guarantee that this will work.
- You can check the link for a compatibility list of confirmed reports from users across South Korea, Mexico, Bangladesh, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and more countries. The link includes comments from people who said this patch worked great for them.
- You can also help fill out that compatibility list by sending your reports to the developers. You can also check the link to the thread. The more people report their success or failure with this mod; the better the compatibility list will be and the more people it will help within the Android community.
- There is also another way that we can check to see if this patch worked to enable voice-over LTE on your Google Pixel device, and that is by dialling *#*#4636#*#*.
- From there, tap on phone information and then tap the three-dot menu icon at the top right.
- Then select IMS service status again, and right there, you are going to look for the IMS registration line.
Additional Information
- If this patch has not worked or if you have not rebooted the phone enough or let the phone register with your wireless carrier long enough, then it will say not registered.
- But once you get voice-over LTE working on the device, then this page and this line will switch to register.
- If this patch works for you, you will be happy to know that you will not have to go through all these steps after restarting the phone.
- However, you will have to go through all those steps again after installing a new over-the-air update from Google.
